Task 2: Five Finger Pitch
- Genre- Psychological thriller (short film)
- Main protagonist- 20 year old young woman
- Goal- Avoid danger and guilt/ get away with murder
- Obstacle- Herself- she is overly paranoid and psychotic
- What’s important- power of memories and the mind
Task 3: Film Outline
Working Title: ‘Deception’
Brief: A narrative twist/ A narrative which establishes and develops a single character
Outline: A young woman witnesses a murder and believes she is constantly in danger of being followed by the person she saw did it. She is highly paranoid and thinks she’s being watched. The woman appears very put together on the outside but inside she is actually delusional and psychotic. It is revealed that she is the one who committed the murder and she is trying to convince herself and manipulate her own memory that she didn’t do it as a way of coping with the guilt. Everything the audience had been shown up to this point from the woman point of view was a false deception of reality and the woman trying to replace the dark memory. The person she had been trying to escape all this time was herself and her own mind, yet couldn’t seem to get away from it.
Location:
Where is it set? New York city- including the busy/chaotic streets, an alleyway, cramped one bedroom apartment, and underground train subway.
When is it set? Present day- winter
Why is it set where and when it is? The busyness and chaos of the crowded New York streets mimics the chaos and disorder inside the character’s head. From a bystanders point of view she blends in with the crowd as just another person going about their day, when really it is being used to mask her dark secret. It is set in the present day as peoples information ext. is so much more accessible via social media making people more aware of what the people are up to and easier to look into someones life, meaning the character is more conscious and paranoid.
Main Character Breakdown:
- Name- Natalie
- Age- 20
- Student- has an apprenticeship in a company firm
- She is very well put together, neat, organised and collected on the outside- appears to be calm and patient. On the inside this is the complete opposite- she is paranoid, complex, neurotic, confused and cynical.
Hybrid Genre: Psychological Thriller
Audience: I think the film would appeal to more mature audiences, for example over the age of 16, as it is told from a young woman’s perspective and incorporates more sinister psychological themes.
